Protect your Precious Eyes

Here are a number of things you can do to prevent deterioration and improve quality of vision:

·         Stare at something in the distance for 30 seconds every 60 minutes. This will improve your long distance focus

·         Put your finger in front of your face (approx 6-8 inches away). Stare at the finger for ten seconds and then focus on something in the distance. Again this is good for long distance focus

·         Nod your head up and down slowly a number of times, looking at the ceiling and then at your toes. This will increase the blood circulation to your head and eyes (um, don’t let your boss/wife/husband/kids or even dogs see you doing this exercise….)

·         Only wear glasses when it is absolutely necessary

·         Take Bilberry extract and eat foods high in lutein such as kale, spinach and eggs.

·         Avoid sugary foods, as excess sugar is well known to have a negative effect on healthy eyes

·         Wear polarised sunglasses

·         Practise your hand to eye coordination by playing tennis, golf, cricket, table tennis etc. This will help you to train your focusing capacity

·         Take regular breaks from watching the TV and using the computer

·         Close your eyes and rest them now and then

·         It sounds obvious but make sure you blink regularly.

Most people will have problems with their eyesight during the course of their lives. It is absolutely essential, therefore, that you have your eyes checked regularly and if you are over 40, start taking preventative measure now before it’s too late.
