CONSTIPATION

I’m often asked what to do about this irritating malady – hopefully these 8 tried and tested remedies will be helpful if this is your problem:

  1. 1/3 molasses is quite a good natural laxative
  2. A glass or two of freshly juiced raw cabbage is great, and juiced zucchini works quite well.
  3. Sauerkraut, juice and all, is really one of the best (make it yourself though)
  4. 4000-6000mg Vitamin C taken AT ONCE generally works wonders, is safe and natural.  Add two teaspoons of calcium-magnesium gluconate and you have a brilliant natural remedy!
  5. Gentle abdominal massage can be helpful – follow the direction of your bowel: begin in your lower belly, below and to the right of your navel. Move up, and then across. Then, move down your left abdomen and finish just above the groin area. Repeat this a few times, and in a while you will likely notice an urge to have a bowel movement. This is especially helpful for children. Do not massage if there is a pregnancy or any medical or surgical reason why you shouldn't.  Be gentle, don’t injure yourself, and using the palm of your hand or “heel” of your hand is probably the kindest part to use.
  6. Walking, bicycling and other light-to-moderate exercise is always helpful for regularity
  7. Stewed fruits (such as prunes) still work well for many people but not everyone.  Depends how much you eat, really…
  8. A castor oil pack placed warm on the stomach has been known to work.
