Anti-oxidant Supplementation

Dealing with the damage done by free radicals generated during exercise is of paramount importance. Paradoxically, the oxygen which is so highly sought by exercising cells in the supply of energy is also involved in the generation of free radicals. They are therefore a normal by-product of cell metabolism.

Very briefly free radicals (oxidants) can be formed when oxygen combines with the electrons which were generated in the breakdown of the glucose to form the energy carrier, ATP, in the cell. As one metabolises large quantities of glucose to make all the ATP for energy during exercise one also makes large quantities of free radicals.

These free radicals are highly reactive entities which combine indiscriminately with healthy cell components from membranes to DNA causing them to be damaged. These damaged molecules themselves take on the role of free radicals and go on to perpetuate the damage to adjacent parts. A destructive snowballing effect now ensues.

Whilst it is important to get adequate amounts of sunshine on our skin, excessive exposure to ultraviolet radiation increases the build up of free radicals in the skin.

Some of the consequences of unchecked free radical damage are premature ageing, reduced immune function, cancer and atherosclerosis (blocked arteries).

The only way to combat these oxidant free radicals is to have a healthy supply of anti-oxidant nutrients in the system. Instead of leaving the free radicals to smash up healthy cell components the antioxidants will mop them up and render them ineffective.

It is important to have a variety of antioxidants in the diet as they support and recycle each other. This synergistic effect is not obtained if one only takes one or two antioxidant nutrients.

BARLEYLIFE
This green food is rich in all the antioxidants which the young barley plant requires to combat the free radicals it makes itself as well as those caused by ultraviolet radiation from the sun.
Barleylife contains a wide variety of antioxidants as well as the components needed by the cell to make its own antioxidants. Furthermore the antioxidant mix found in plants is such that maximum synergy is obtained without imbalances.

CELLSPARC
The Coenzyme Q10 found in Cellsparc is a potent anti-oxidant which recycles Vitamin E.
Tocotrionol is a special form of Vitamin E found in Cellsparc which protects cell membranes from damage. It also protects other antioxidants and preserves them so that they maintain their functionality.

JUST CARROTS
By using this powder of organically grown carrot one ensures a supply of Beta Carotene without the pesticides found in commercially available carrots. The body makes on demand all the Vitamin A it needs from its Beta Carotene supplies. Both these substances are powerful antioxidants

PROANCYNOL 2000
containing selenium, is one of the most important anti-cancer free radical scavengers. BEAR PAW GARLIC and GINKGOSENSE also contain the most powerful antioxidants found in nature.
